Imago, Ethics in Couples Counseling Webinar!
Couple's work can often feel overwhelming for clinicians. In spite of years of training in psychotherapy, the thought of having to manage the energy and the conflict of two people leads many therapists to run the other way. Imago Relationship Therapy is an approach with a thirty-year track record. It provides clinicians with a new perspective into conceptualizing conflict as well as a clear structure for running a session, allowing the therapist to remain in control of the room and achieve phenomenal results.
This interactive training offers concrete steps for providing successful couples counseling. Participants will gain confidence in couples work when they understand the methods employed by Imago therapists. Clinicians will learn how to better conceptualize the conflict that the couples is experiencing, and how to create enough safety to de-escalate the conflict and help the couple reconnect. Participants will also be exposed to the Imago Dialogue process and how it can be used to elicit more effective communication, understanding, and compassion.
Therapists are taught of our ethical responsibility to Do no Harm. Couples therapy is an area in which the potential for harm to the client is great as unsuccessful therapy; can make a relationship worse and even lead to divorce. Besides basic competency in couple's work, there are other practices of good therapy that when applied will ensure that the therapist provides a safe and neutral environment for the couple to work through their issues.
This interactive training will help you explore the best ethical practices for couple's therapy as well as explore why working with couples requires a different set of core competencies than individual therapy. Through lecture and interactive discussions, participants will consider the various ethical dilemmas that arise in couple’s therapy. They will also learn how to better provide neutrality and unconditional positive regard for the couple.
Participants will learn best ethical practices for couple's therapy that will make their work with couples more effective. You will examine real case scenarios and will gain skills that will be useful to all areas of your clinical practice.

March 10: 10:00 am – 4:45 pm EST
Trauma & Attachment Therapy: A Family Systems Approach
Attachment experiences between young children and caregivers wire brain circuits, alter biochemistry, create core beliefs and narratives, and form the template for future relationships. Early developmental trauma (i.e., disrupted attachment), as well as abuse, neglect, and other traumatic experiences, often results in depression, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, behavioral acting-out, shame, dissociation, identity confusion, and inability to maintain healthy relationships.
In this webinar, trauma, attachment, and family therapy expert, Terry M. Levy, Ph.D., will teach you the concepts and clinical skills necessary to create positive change and healing with clients experiencing trauma and attachment problems. Via PowerPoint and clinical videos, you will learn cognitive, emotional, social and experiential interventions to help children, adults, couples and families regarding the following issues: negative attitudes and beliefs; insecure attachment styles; PTSD symptoms; unhealthy relationship patterns; communication and conflict-management skills; anger-management, impulse control, and other prosocial coping skills; sense of identity (from victim to overcomer); mitigating intergenerational trauma; rewiring the traumatized brain; learning therapeutic (healing) parenting.
Terry M. Levy, Ph.D., has been a therapist, trainer and author for over 45 years. Dr. Levy is a licensed clinical psychologist, director of the Evergreen Psychotherapy Center in Colorado, and co-author of Attachment, Trauma and Healing (Jessica Kingsley Pub., London, 2014) and Healing Parents: Helping Wounded Children Learn to Trust and Love (CWLA Pub., Washington, D.C., 2006).
